What's The Difference?

What' The Difference?
By: Jessie
Authors Note: This following essay that I will be writing is a compare and contrast on the main characters in the last two books that I have read.

Main characters are the life of the book, their what the main plot is reflected on.  The last two books that I have read are The Outsiders, and War Comes to Willy Freeman. The two main characters in these book are Pony Boy and Willy. These two characters share the similarity of their parents dying at a young age. The contrast is they live in two different time periods in history . Willy and Pony Boy share similarities and differences.

To begin with,  In the 1700's black people were harshly treated. They had to work twice as hard, for little pay or typically for no pay at all due to their skin color. This was the case for Willy Freeman up until she became free. One day when Willy was working she glanced into the distance and tragically saw her dad  stabbed and shot in his heart. When Willy went to go tell her mom,  she discovered that her mom had been kidnapped by the Red Coats. In the 1950's Pony Boy was a normal average kid, perfect parents, very wealthy, and had great siblings. All this changed in a blink of an eye when his parents died in a car crash. These two characters share the similarity of loosing their parents at a young age.

Another, similarity between these two main characters is the fact that they both were harshly treated by society. Pony Boy experienced discrimination when he lost his wealth, and became poor. He was soon put into a place where he got bullied, and picked on, and because of that he became an outsider. Even when he saved several kids from a burning church, people struggled to believe that Pony Boy would do such a brave task. Society treated Willy harshly from the moment she was born. This beautiful child was hated because of the fact that her skin color was black.  She was a slave from birth and had to work long, painful hours because of society's views of slavery.  Like Pony Boy, Willy soon found herself to be an outsider.  Even when she became free from slavery, she was not treated like other white children her age.  Both Pony Boy and Willy were unfairly treated by society's point of view

Lastly, The main difference that these two characters share is the time periods of which they lived in. Ponyboy lived in a time period where black people were treated fine, but many people were stereotyped due to money and other issues. While Willy lived during the 1700's where black people got treated like animals, and pests. If you live in a time where you got majorly treated wrong you're going to have a hard time trying to get through to the fact that you're like the others, you truly are it's just how society see's it. Ponyboy and Willy share the difference of the time periods they lived in.

In conclusion, Ponyboy and Willy share the facts that they were treated unfairly in society, and that their parents died at a young age. They share the difference of the time periods that they have lived in.  Willy and Pony Boy share similarities and differences.
